Group times at Kiddie Academy are a time for children and educators to come together to plan learning experiences and extend their knowledge of current learning topics. Educators represent children’s thinking by making it visible on white boards for the children to see and documenting this in floor books which the children have opportunities to add to throughout their day. Learning is a process which includes children, parents and staff coming together to share knowledge and ideas.
Children at Kiddie Academy are encouraged to care for their own belongings and care for themselves based on their developmental awareness. Throughout their day children have the opportunity to wash hands, toilet independently or with help, put shoes on and off, place items in their bag, look after their drink bottles by placing them on a trolley and remembering which is theirs (with help) and serving their food in the preschool room. Self help skills encourage children to look after themselves while also giving a sense of pride for being able to do things on their own.
Munch & Move is NSW Health initiative that supports the healthy development of children birth to 5 years by promoting physical activity, healthy eating and reduced small screen time (e.g. watching TV or DVDs, playing on computers and small hand-held games devices) (https://www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au/campaigns-programs/about-munch-move.aspx). Here at Kiddie Academy we engage in Munch and Move daily as part of our program. In this time children have opportunities to get active and learn about healthy lifestyles.
Outdoor play is a time for children to engage and use their physical movement skills. Our outdoor environment has been built to incorporate a number of natural and planned experiences for children to help develop these skills and gain control over their bodies. Physical play provides children the opportunity to:
- Develop strong bones and muscles
- Improve strength and balance
- Develop flexibility and coordination
- Develop fundamental movement skills
- Develop spatial awareness
- Develop mathematical concepts
- Be confident as they learn to control their bodies and understand their limits
- Learn to cooperate and share with others
- Promote healthy growth and development
During indoor play time Educators are working to help children develop skills in learning, creativity, identity, social and emotional skills and language skills. These skills are nurtured through both planned and spontaneous learning experiences including block play, home area play, art and craft, and cognitive experiences including puzzles and games. Children are encouraged to be actively part of their learning by expressing their desires and ideas during morning group times. Parents and Educators work together to create goals for children’s learning that can be reached in this environment.
At Kiddie Academy school readiness is part of our daily program. Our school readiness program involves the whole child development approach where not only learning is included but also the physical, social and emotional aspects of each child are considered as part of their learning. Educators use teachable moments throughout the day to interact with each child and develop these skills as well as having a focused learning group time for specific skill development.
Our Service is passionate about sustainability. We believe in supporting children to appreciate and care for the environment by embedding sustainable practice into the daily operation of our Service, infrastructure and teaching.
In order to empower our sustainability program we emphasise children’s ability to make a difference, enabling them to learn and appreciate their environment in an engaging, fun and exciting manner. We do this by engaging children in discussion about sustainable practice, encouraging them to participate in a recycling program, reducing energy and conserving water. We aim to provide children with the skills and knowledge required to become environmentally responsible.
Our Centre Environment
Kiddie Academy Kellyville has 3 classrooms;
- 6 weeks to 2 years – Ladybugs Room
- 2 years to 3 years – Bumblebees Room
- 3 years to 5 years – Dragonflies Room
Our centre is specially designed with two separate and spacious age appropriate playgrounds for our children to enjoy. Each individual room is set up and displayed in a way that promotes as well as supports the children’s learning throughout. Here at Kiddie Academy, we ensure that the children’s voices are being heard and are constantly finding ways to influence the children’s learning and play through our environment. Our outdoor environment promotes physical play which allows the children to enhance their confidence in their physical movements. It provides the children the opportunity to use energy while developing their concentration, learning and their own wellbeing.
What Parents Say
