The transition to school program commences at the start of February, once all the children have transitioned into the blue room and our school leavers for the year have left. The activities and planned experiences for the children will vary and be according to where that child is, developmentally. We also aim to differentiate our teaching to ensure that each child’s individual learning needs are being catered to.
“It has been one of the best learning experiences of my 25-year teaching career. I am in awe daily of how quickly the children learn and have loved this learning.”
“My child counts to 10 in Indonesian and so does his younger sister, and she doesn’t even attend preschool.”
“My child comes home keen to apply new words that he has learnt at school in the home context. He is even teaching his two-year-old sister to count in French. He often describes things in French.”
Family at preschool using ELLA program
ELLA is a fun and easy digital language program for preschool children. It is an Australian Government initiative aimed at encouraging more students to learn languages in later years. ELLA introduces children to learning a new language via interactive tablet apps, which have been developed in consultation with experts in languages, early childhood and technology. A cast of characters called the Polyglots introduce the children to words, sentences and songs in another language. The apps use a playful approach to learning, drawing on the interests and activities of young children, such as celebrations, cooking experiences, art activities, building and role-play. In 2018, Hindi and Modern Greek will be added to the seven currently available languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. ELLA creates opportunities to enrich the children’s experience of language and culture in the apps through other activities such as cooking, stories or music, or inviting family and community members to share their cultures at the preschool. All ELLA apps are aligned to the learning outcomes in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), a key component of the Australian Government’s National Quality Framework for early childhood education and care. Regarding online safety, the ELLA apps work within a closed system in each preschool – the apps are not available to the public. They cannot be used to communicate with anyone outside the preschool. Using ELLA has shown multiple benefits for children. Children will expand their knowledge of how language works and apply these skills to other literacy tasks, such as listening carefully to sounds in words. These skills will be used when the children learn to read and write. ELLA will also help develop foundation skills, such as learning colours, counting and greetings. Research has shown that exposing children to language learning at an early age encourages them to continue language studies during secondary school.

“Movement plays a central role in children’s development and learning. Observe almost any infant, in almost any setting, and you will see ample evidence of this: through movement children learn about their bodies, their physical and social environments, they try out different roles and rules, they test themselves. Indeed, it might be claimed that movement, action and play make up the ‘culture of childhood” – Bruner, 1983
Kiddie Academy offers the Soundplay Program to our families as we believe it is a great way to help your child establish a positive relationship to learning. Our children enjoy every moment of class. Between the music, jokes and giggles. Musical study in early childhood advances brain development.
Soundplay classes harness the magic of music in age appropriate programs to support milestones that are essential for greater learning.
Using musical games, instruments and technology, classes not only introduce your children to the foundations of music but support the development of numeracy, literacy, co-ordination, self–confidence, sharing, motor skills and creativity.
We inspire a deeply positive relationship with learning that will
benefit them for years to come.
Kiddie Academy and Soundplay are working together to bring this program straight to your child while enrolled in care. The Soundplay program is ran every Thursday from 10:00am till 11:00am.
Music is an integral part of a quality early childhood curriculum… It plays a role in … developing skills and concepts, helping children make transitions, and building a sense of community.
Lunch box week will run for two weeks during October. During this time child will be encouraged to bring in their own healthy lunch boxes and take responsibility in packing them. Over the two weeks, the children will engage in activities such as wrapping sandwiches, opening and closing zip lock bags, making their own sandwiches, peeling fruits and learning how to work through their lunch boxes.
A dramatic play area will be set up to reflect a classroom environment for children to play and explore.
Regular discussions, stories, and pictures will be explored to increase children’s knowledge and understanding of “big school”. Towards the end of the year, we will receive information packs from the surrounding School’s and these will be used to familiarise the children with their ‘new school environment’.
News time/show and tell is implemented in our program every day. We encourage children to bring in educational resources, pictures or stories to share with their peers. The objective of our News time is to encourage children to be more confident in addressing a large group and extending on their public speaking skills.
Every morning at the children are split into their respective groups with a teacher. During these small group times, the teacher will plan various experiences based on the child/ren’s developmental level and abilities. These experiences will include numeracy, literacy, self-help and craft based activities.
Towards the end of the year, the children transitioning to Big School be encouraged to participate in quiet activities during rest time, instead of sleeping.
Work books will be used during our morning small groups with a focus on shapes, numbers, tracing, cutting and letters etc. Book work will only be implemented for short periods of time and integrated learning will still be adopted.
At Kiddie Academy, we aim to work collaboratively with parents and are happy to provide supplementary work to take home on the weekends. This is not compulsory, and only offered if the child would benefit from additional work, or if the parents have asked for it. We are happy to provide some materials and work to take home if your child is leaving on a long holiday, to ensure that they will be able to transition back into our program once they return.
Children and staff collaboratively will research, explore and learn about “big school”. Children’s existing knowledge will be discovered and realistic expectations of what it will be like to start school discovered. This will give them the chance to share stories from their older siblings and their experiences. We hope to invite some of our graduates from the following year to discuss Big School, and answer some questions that the children may have.
Kids and Traffic resource kit will be used to further promote children’s knowledge of road safety. Road Safety and stranger danger is a topic that is discussed on a weekly basis during our group time discussions.
Self help skills is an essential part of our Kiddie Academy Curriculum. We strive to support the children in becoming independent and confident individuals. The children are all encouraged to dress and undress themselves. We encourage them to learn essential hygienic skills such as toileting independently, wiping their nose, washing their face and sneezing into their arm or tissue. The children are given the opportunity to serve themselves during our morning tea.
Meals are provided by Kids Gourmet Food Catering Company, using premium quality, fresh, whole ingredients.

We feel physical play is a vital part of everyday life.
We believe in providing children with a range of physical activities and experiences on a daily occurrence for them to challenge their large and small muscles, allowing them to gain increasing control over their bodies as they learn the importance of physical play.
Physical play provides children with the opportunity to:
